Elf arrival ideas for the first morning
Arrival is the December 1 setup: the doll shows up, and the house has a trace that it traveled. Families want a short list they can do after the kids are asleep, not a craft that takes all evening. This page collects arrival setups that use things already in the kitchen or the hall, and it points at the night-camera workflow for a clip of that same pose. It works with your Elf on the Shelf® or any toy elf.

Setups that survive a school morning
The arrival pose has to be obvious from the doorway. A doll sitting on a suitcase by the front door reads as "just got here" without a letter, though a letter helps. A doll in a mixing bowl with a paper plane made from scrap paper reads as a landing. A doll next to a pair of boots with a tiny paper map on the mat works if you already own boots. None of these need a store run.
Skip setups that depend on a child being in the photo. The video, when it exists, is of the doll and the room. Take the picture after the props are still and the people have left the room. If you want words, print a letter from the letter tool instead of writing on the wall.
The ideas tool on this site filters by what you have on hand: paper, tape, cereal, a flashlight, a houseplant. Ask it for an arrival-style idea and it will only offer setups that match the boxes you tick. It does not call a language model. The list is written into the page so it still works if the network is flaky.
A camera date for arrival week
The generator's dates run from December 1 through December 24. For an arrival clip, pick December 1 or the night you actually posed the doll. The clock time is editable and only appears on the stamped download, not inside the model output. That split matters: models write nonsense timestamps, so the overlay is drawn later.
The arrival scene is not open yet. Living room at night and Doorbell at night show how the flow will work while you join the waitlist. We will enable the arrival scene after doll photos show the doll can step into frame and sit back down without growing a second head.
Upload one photo of the doll and the room only. The doll can be on a shelf, a counter, the porch, or a dresser. Leave people out of the frame, including children, faces in the background, and reflections in a mirror or a TV. A general face detector also fires on a doll's painted face, so instead of guessing, the upload form asks you to confirm the photo shows only the doll and the room, and a video request without that confirmation is refused. Photos with people in them are not accepted.
Keep the doll fully in frame, with a little floor or shelf around it so it has somewhere to step. A lamp or tree lights that are already on are enough. You do not need a dark room, a tripod, or a special camera. Phone photos are fine. JPG, PNG, and WebP up to 5 MB work. Crop out doorbell-app buttons before you upload a porch screenshot.
The clip is meant to end with the doll back in that same pose, so the next morning the real doll and the video still match. The scene prompts ask the model to finish in the opening pose. Using your photo as the closing frame as well is the stronger fix, and we will only promise it once real test clips show it works.
What not to promise your child yet
Do not tell a child that a video is waiting if you have only joined the email list. The list is a notice for when generation opens. It is not a delivery date. As of this writing the sell target is before mid-November, and the content pages are the part that can ship first.
Do not use official character artwork, the book illustrations, or a logo you do not own as the doll in the photo. Photograph the doll you own. Do not sell prints of the result. The terms forbid using the clip as news footage.
If arrival morning also needs a name, the name tool can suggest one from a list of ordinary invented names. It will not suggest a name that copies a branded character. If you already have a name in the family, type it into the letter tool and print that instead.
